Tacos for Breakfast Because Why Not?

This morning’s breakfast was at Johnny Tacos. The warung is only five minutes away from where I live, by foot. Located just across from where Doppio Cafe is, I seated myself at one of the seatings and ordered a food combo consisting of two tacos, tortilla chips, salsa, and a drink of my choice. For the tacos, I opted for a soft shell pork taco and a soft shell shrimp taco. In under ten minutes, my meal was served.

The shrimp taco was served with a handful of chopped onions and cilantro, then drizzled with some spicy mayonnaise on top. There were three pieces of big and juicy shrimps in my taco and they were well-seasoned with salt and black pepper, enough to give flavors to my dish. The spicy mayonnaise succeeded in giving that extra kick to the flavor wheel, as well as the lime.  Compared to the pork taco, the shrimp taco had a more diverse character in terms of flavor.

Despite lacking of flavors, my pork taco was saved by the glorious amount of pulled-pork served on top of the soft tortilla bread. They were savory and tremendously juicy. I squeezed some more lime onto my pork taco and, boy, it became refreshingly good! I ate my remaining taco with some salsa-dipped tortillas in between and the flavor combination worked well with each other.

I ended my meal with a glassful of coconut water, which tasted very refreshing and sweet. I noticed how the taste of my coconut water was au natural, meaning there were no sugar added to the juice, despite it being served in a glass instead of in its’ originated coconut shell. All in all, I can say that today’s breakfast was very fulfilling!

Smoothie and Desserts at Kopi dan Kue

“I’m pretty tired, but I really want to go out. There’s this restaurant I found on Google that seems interesting. But, I’m too tired to go out,” I said to boyfriend earlier this night. “I think, by doing what you love, you won’t feel tired anymore,” he replied. It took a while for me to decide whether or not I should go out. But, since I have no flight tomorrow, I decided to follow my heart despite my current physical condition. So, I ordered an online transportation and headed to Kopi and Kue.

Located pretty much across of Bubba Gump Shrimp, Kopi dan Kue is one of the many restaurants on the side of Kartika Plaza Street that serves local and international tourists until late at night. I had a hard time deciding on what dish I should get, so I asked for a help from ya boi to choose me a dessert. I had my eyes on its’ Mille-feuille, but boyfriend opted for the Chocolate Lava Cake, so I got me both; as well as a glass of Banana Blue Smoothie.

I don’t recommend you the smoothie because it was too watery for me. The amount of water used in this concoction was way too much compared to the fruits. I ordered my drink with no sugar because it already has honey in it, but it did no justice to the smoothie. I wish they put more banana and blueberry into it.

The Mille-feuille was a bit overwhelming. There were too much butter cream situation going on and the raspberry jam was a plenty. Fruity and creamy are the best description I can give for the Mille-feuille, but since I’m no fan of desserts with berries in it, it was quite challenging for me to finish the whole thing.

My Chocolate Lava Cake, on the other hand, was awesome! It was so delicious I thanked my boyfriend for choosing it for me. The cake was drizzled with powdered sugar and topped with a Maraschino cherry, which I didn’t eat because I despise preserved and sweetened cherries, and it came with a scoop of freezing cold Vanilla ice cream on the side.

I took a spoon and did a cross section of my Chocolate Lava Cake, and I was welcomed with the most glorious money shot ever. The chocolate lava came out from the cake beautifully! There was a generous amount of it and it was so delicious. The cake itself was baked to perfection, with slightly crunchy crust on the outside and moist insides. It was really deliciously bitter and not the slightest bit sickeningly sweet. It went really well with the ice cold ice cream. In a snap of a finger, I devoured the entire dessert with no effort whatsoever.
