Cappuccino

Did you know that the name "Cappuccino" originated from the Capuchin monks, whose robes are chocolate in color decorated with cream colored rope as belts? Cappuccino, which is an Italian drink made from espresso, hot milk, and steamed-milk foam, share the same color as the monks' robes, so that's why it is named after the Capuchin monks.

It is said that Italian never drink Cappuccino, either it be hot or iced, after 11 AM because they believe that the milk contained in the drink will disturb their digesting system. Italian consider milk as heavy meal, same like scones for English people and rice for Indonesian people, that is why they usually only drink a glass of Cappuccino for breakfast without toasts or boiled eggs.

I personally like Cappuccino because it has this interesting flavor and aroma. I once was served with a glass of instant cappuccino at a car showroom, which surprisingly tasted great. I also bought myself a cup of instant cappuccino a while ago that tasted as good as it looked. It tasted milky and sweet, yet bitter and asdfghjkl, but pretty much delicious and amusing.

A Favorite at Gudang Rottie

Cheese and Smoked Beef Bun has become my number one favorite bun of Gudang Rottie! This particular bun is very soft, topped with shredded cheese and filled with a slice of smoked beef with melted cheese on top. The bun itself is rather sweet and and light, and it blended well with the fillings.

I usually buy myself a couple of Cheese and Smoked Beed Bun when I was at work and when my stomach sang the song of its' people. Being a waitress at Gudang Rottie gives you a privilege to get a 10% discount to every product, which make me have to pay Rp 6.300,00 for a piece of Cheese and Smoked Beed Bun instead of Rp 7.000,00. Awesome, huh?

I usually put the bun into a microwave and warm it for around 4 minutes. The top part of the bun is usually burnt at some places, I like my food burnt, and the bun gets lighter and sloppier. If you cut the bun into two parts right in the middle, you can see the cheese-topped smoked beef peeking from the inside. Every bites flutters my heart with joy as the savory fillings and the sweet bun collide. A definite must try for those who fancy savory and soft buns!

When Less is More

It has been a week since I share the same occupation as Ayuzawa Misaki from Maid-sama and I have enjoyed every second of it. Being a waitress is a tiring job indeed, but I had fun and learned so much from my colleagues! I even learned the fact that there is a small shop that sells instant noodles and drinks just across Villa Jatibening, where Gudang Rottie is located, and I have been visiting the small shop most of the time during my break time.

It was during my third day of work when I first saw the small shop. The shop is located between a large Warung Masakan Padang and a meatball shop. This particular small shop was far from fancy, but it was love at first sight. I entered the shop immediately and observed like an excited kid in an amusement park. There were a couple of benches, organized neatly at the side of the table. Instant coffee sachets and frying pans decorated the lousy cardboard wall. The shop was small, yet cozy.

A young lady came out from the back of the shop and asked me what I would have with a big smile on her face. "A glass of orange juice and a bowl of noodle, please," I said. The young lady nodded and prepared my order immediately. "Would you like to have your noodle well done, or medium rare," she asked. I prefer my noodle a bit chewy and slightly bitable, so I asked her not to over cooked it. Ten minutes later, my orange juice was served, along with my noodle, and I spent my break time enjoying the little things in life.

Dinner With The Yearbook Committee

Meet the Yearbook Committee

I just got home after spending the night at Mr. Curry with the Yearbook Committee. We broke the fast, had dinner, and devoured parfaits. I've been wanting to go back to Mr. Curry and I finally did it. I even prepared my stomach by not munching on snack after I had brunch to show how determined I was. Today was my second visit to Mr. Curry and the food was still as delicious as ever.

Started with a glass of complimentary sweet tea, then followed with a glass of Iced Lemon Tea and a plate of Tori Karaage as an appetizer. There were dates and glasses of tea served on the table as complimentary dishes for the Muslims to break the fast. Much to my surprise, the tea tasted different in a good way. It was sweet, yet it has this flavor that tasted very familiar. Either it was fruit-flavored tea or candy-flavored tea, I couldn't tell, but it sure tasted good!

There were twelve of us, dinning in at Mr. Curry, and we ordered plenty of food. Sally, Enno, and I shared a plate of appetizer because we didn't want to get ourselves full before the main course. Well, at least I didn't. The Tori Karaage was delicious and crispy, but it was fatty and squishy. I'm not a big fan of food that still has fats in it, especially the squishy and the rubbery ones, so I just took a piece of the Karaage.

What I love about the appetizer was the lettuce and the dipping sauce. There was a slice of lettuce on the Karaage plate and I was in the mood for some juicy greens, so I took it and dipped it in the Tartar sauce. Man, that piece of lettuce was juicy! The Tartar sauce was very delicious, savory and sour, as well. Too bad I didn't bring some breadsticks with me.

Cindy ordered herself a plate of deep-fried tofu for appetizer. They were as big as thumbs and very few. I tried a bite. It turned out that those tofu had a rather unique texture. "Delicious, right, Kin? These tofu are crispy on the outside, yet very soft and light on the inside," said Sally. Yes, those tofu were very light. The inner part of the tofu was very soft and fragile, it literary disperse in your mouth. Highly recommended for those who prefer a rather light appetizer!

"Curry-a-plenty" described our dinner perfectly. I ordered myself the same dish that I ordered on my first visit to Mr. Curry, which is a plate of Katsu Omurice for dinner, crispy chicken katsu on top of fried-egg-enveloped tomato fried rice. It came with a generous amount of savory curry sauce on the sides and a tiny bowl of salad. I enjoyed the dish very much! It's a good thing I didn't eat snacks beforehand.

The thing about Mr. Curry is that they always have discount promotions everyday. The promo may vary, depending on what day that you dine in. Since today was Thursday, and Thursday's promo is "Buy two Jumbo Parfaits, free one Macaroon Parfait", we had a parfait party!

I've been wanting to try Mr. Curry's parfait and I finally did. I ordered myself a Chocolate Banana Jumbo Parfait, like the one that Iqbal and Bagas had. Judging from the size of the parfait, Sally and Enno decided to share their parfait because they didn't think that they could finish a glass. Bimo, Andrew, Anty, Cindy, and Febby had three different flavors of Macaroon Parfait, which were Cookies and Cream Parfait, Tutty Fruity Parfait, and Chocolate Parfait. Dimas had a big glass of Blueberry and Kiwi Jumbo Parfait. Christy ordered herself a Green Tea Jumbo Parfait. And then there was this Strawberry Pudding Parfait that belonged to Christy and I, but we decided to share it with the girls.

The Jumbo Parfait consisted of corn flakes at the bottom of the glass, then topped with some creamy and stuffing whipped cream. The whipped cream was covered with a generous amount of Vanilla ice cream, then it was garnished with toppings accordingly. Each parfaits had different toppings, but we could all find Strawberries and Pocky sticks in every parfait that we ordered. The Macaroon Parfaits, on the other hand, had different flavored macaroons on top of the Vanilla ice cream.

Good Lord, look at those parfaits!

Stop tormenting me, parfait. You know I can't resist you.

Christy's Green Tea Parfait

My Chocolate Banana Jumbo Parfait was very very very delicious! The chef used shredded dark chocolates as toppings, which blended well with the Vanilla ice cream and made the whole parfait itself didn't tasted too sweet. The roasted almonds were also very delightful to be consumed, along with the strawberry and the bananas. Then I proceed to dig a little dipper to get myself a spoonful of whipped cream and corn flakes. A hint of chocolate fudge was found, mixed with the whipped cream and the corn flakes, making the bottom part of the parfait the best part there is. The next thing I know, I finished the whole parfait all by myself.

Then I proceed to get a taste of the yellow colored pudding on top of the Strawberry Pudding Jumbo Parfait. The pudding was pretty tasteless at first, but then it gave this slight caramel flavor as you chew. The other girls were stuffed, but I continued to eat my second parfait. I had to stop at some point because Osmosis Jones accidentally bumped into my Puke Button, somewhere inside my body, making me feel all queazy.

This parfait, I worship it.

When productivity and Procrastination Collide

"Couch potato" is probably the right term to describe my well-being for the passed couple of days. Yesterday, I spent the entire day watching Tv and munching on snacks, and not giving any kinds of attention to other things, including my laptop. But, I decided to be productive today by helping out my Mom in the kitchen and practicing my skill in making latte art. Unfortunately, productivity lasted until noon, then it's back to being a couch-potato.

Started the day with my foamy hot chocolate

Mom cooked all day because Dad requested her to make some dishes that he can bring to Doha, Qatar. Being a great cook that she is, my Mom woke up early in the morning and started cooking until the sun set. One of the dishes that she made was Rawon, a traditional black beef stew with rich flavors. Keluak is the main ingredient of making Rawon. This particular spices is also known as black nuts.

Horcrux-like Keluak, cannot be destroyed without the right tool

Keluak's outer shell is very hard to break. You cannot break the outer shell of Keluak without the right tool, which is a hammer, making it look like a Horcrux and the Sword of Gryffindor. Crack open the outer shell of Keluak and you will find a soft black mushy subject that will be used to give flavor and color to Rawon. Pretty interesting stuff we got here.

The rather soft and mushy inner part of Keluak

Success!

Then, I minced. Since Mom was cooking lots of food, she prepared a large amount of garlic and red onion to be minced. Being a diligent student that I am, I grabbed myself a knife and started cutting them to small pieces.

Mince them garlic and onion like a garlic boss

Working at Gudang Rottie has given me lots of knowledg,e including the existence of latte art. I was determined to be able to make latte art, so I decided to give it a try this morning. Since I was not in the mood for latte or coffe, I used hot chocolate as an alternative. Yet, instead of successfully drawing a tulip on the hot chocolate with foamy milk, I ended up making bubbly drink that looked unappealing. It seemed like my first attempt at latte art flunked.

Second attempt at latte art

I failed miserably

I woke up at nine in the morning and I was pretty sleepy when noon approaches. I hadn't eat anything for breakfast, so Mom gave me a couple slices of Kue Apem. Kue Apem is a traditional cake originated from Indonesia that tasted delicious, yet funny in an amusing way. It is served with some shredded coconut to make it tasted milky and savory.

Sweet, savory, and milky

I can't say that I've been productive, but I can't say I've been procrastinating either. True, I helped Mom in the kitchen from nine in the morning until the middle of the day, but then I got back to the couch and started watching Thor. Good Lord, I didn't even helped Mom cutting the meat for the Rawon! Man, I'm lazy.

My mom is a meat bauss!
