The Lemmy is God

One day, boyfriend took me to this burger joint that serves some thick-ass juicy burger and alcohol. It was noon, and apparently we don’t really give any damn about when happy hours was going to start, so we settled on the second floor of Lawless Burger Bar and had the ultimate combo of B&B for lunch. And by B&B, I meant burger and booz.

Started off big, we got ourselves the Lemmy Burger each. Now, Lemmy here is the dopest dish that you can find at Lawless Burger Bar. Consisted of two thick meat patties, a generous amount of onion rings, beef brisket, melted cheese, bacon strips, bacon strips, and more bacon strips (unfortunately, they’re beef), then added with a dollop of sauce, along with a slab of pickles, and, finally, garnished with the most breathtaking sunny-side-up. This thing is huge, and tall, and overwhelmingly majestic. It costed me Rp135.000,00 for the burger only, but it was worth it.

The burger was so tall I couldn’t bite into it properly. I had to dissect the whole thing and eat it with a fork and a knife like how the royals eat in the Princess Diaries. But, in this case, you won’t be a sight for sore eyes because this thing is messy as hell!

Davie here is a fan of meat. He cooks meat, he judges meat, and he definitely knows his meat. Boy said that he really love the meat patties as they were very juicy and very tender. “They were not overly cooked,” he said as he pressed down his hand on his burger to let the savory juice overflow ceremoniously. It escapes me wether the staff asked us about how we wanted our meat to be, or not, but one thing for sure that the meat patties were not cooked well done. They were probably somewhere around medium well and medium.

I’m not sure how many sauce there were in the burger, but I remembered tasting a sweet and refreshing Thousand-Islands-like sauce, along with some black pepper sauce, a slab of ketchup on the inner part of the buns, and a hint of barbecue sauce. To my surprise, they sauce did not overpowered the entire filling combination and the flavor was amazingly delicious. I mean, come on, the crispy and thin onion rings combined with three different types of meat, along with some melty cheese, then neutralized with the sour and juicy pickles are just the flavor that everyone needs. It was epic! The most epic burger I’ve ever eaten, yet!

I seriously have to warn you about how massive the Lemmy burger was, tho. A lot was happening on our tray to the point where we had to take a cigarette break from munching (yes, the second floor is smoker friendly indoor seating area). The whole thing was so heavy and room-taking, it took me two hours to finish it all. Well, not all, I only ate one bun as I was too full. The Lemmy was so meaty you might get a heart attack. “Might”, I said “might”!

For the drinks, Davie had a bottle of Bintang Raddler, while I had me a glass of cocktail, the Sambalada, just because it was served in a skull-shaped glass, which I fancy a lot. You see, I’m not a fan of pairing any food with alcohol. For me, the beverage that I take during a meal has to be refreshing, or at least helps make the food go down, and alcohol is definitely not my go-to item. But, that day I decided to step out of my comfort zone. Did I like the combination of pepper-infused tequila with burger? No. Did I like the presentation of the cocktail? Sir, yes, sir!

If you’re someone who love burgers, drink alcohol, smoke at least a pack of cigar a day, and favors the Black Sabbath, Lawless Burger Bar is your safe haven, man. Go for the Lemmy. You won’t regret it!

Negeri Paman Sam: Georgetown Cupcake, DC

On the third day during my stay at Washington D.C., my parents and I headed to Georgetown to enjoy to beauty of an old town. Compared to D.C., I like Georgetown better, because there were always an interesting shop in every corner of the street. Shops like the official Nike Store, fancy boutiques that sells peculiar yet fashionable dresses, an Irish bar, a big bank, and many more. The people who roamed the streets of Georgetown were not so few. There was even this drunkyard on the streets who disturbs and sexually harass women. Speaking about interesting shop in the corner of the street, guess what I found?

*drum rolls*    Georgetown Cupcake, a.k.a. DC Cupcakes by Sophie and Katherine!

The long line just outside Georgetown Cupcake

For those who watch TLC ought to know what DC Cupcakes is. It is a TV Show about a cupcake shop owned by this lovely sisters named Katherine Kalinis and Sophie LaMontagne. The show is often about how the two of them create a big statue made out of cupcake to fulfill a customer's order, sometimes they create a whole new cupcake with their staff and Mom to be sold to the cupcake-loving consumers.

Watching the show itself made me drool excessively. Seeing all those freshly baked chocolate cupcake being decorated with DC Cupcake's signature ganache and frosting shape, then topped with toppings or heart-shaped fondant, tormented me physically and mentally. I always ended up hungry and having the needs to eat something sweet like, I don't know, cupcakes.

The thought of me visiting the sweet shop and bought myself a Red Velvet Cupcake had never crossed my mind. Seriously! But then "We're going to Washington," Dad said and BOOM! there I was lining up on the not-so-long-yet-still-exciting-and-nerve-wrecking queue.

The staff handed out menu for us to pick our cupcakes

Is this the queue line to a roller coaster ride?

Georgetown Cupcake's operating hours

I waited for about 15 minutes to enter the shop. There were people in front of me, and also behind me, getting excited about what cupcakes to chose and how many they were going to buy. I waited there excitedly, and also slightly uneasy, reading the menu. Going through the menu made me feel like Santa Claus sorting out the kids to go to the Good List, or the Naughty List. It was endless. And the more you put your mind to pick a flavor, the more frustrated you will get, because at one point you just wished that you could buy every cupcakes sold in that shop.

There was a staff outside that controls the movement of the line. 3 people out, 5 people in. 6 people out, 10 people in. That is how the system works. One time, she climbed the traffic light and shouted to the people queueing about how they should decide what cupcakes they want to buy at that moment and that there is a special flavored cupcake everyday. "Vegan cupcakes are also available in our cupcake shop," she added.

Finally, it was my turn to enter the shop. As I stepped a foot into the place, I was mesmerized by the grand display of colorful cupcakes at the counter table. behind me was a giant frame filled with DC Cupcakes merchandise, such as T-Shirt, bags, and even books with a picture of Sophie and Katherine on it. On my right side was a tall black board with clip-on small tags to write the name of the cupcakes on. It's a menu board that informed the customers about "Today's Cupcakes".

The menu changes everyday

I decided that I would buy three cupcakes, one for each member of my family. It was very difficult to pick the flavor because I WANT THEM ALL. But, I finally made up my mind and went for the Mint Cookies and Cream, Chocolate 2, and Red Velvet.

I still had to queue inside because it took a while for the people in front of me to place their orders, so I took some shots during to spare time.

At one point, I couldn't help but to feel all giddy in an exciting way.

Would you look at those stacks of cupcakes?

Salted Caramel Cupcakes, yum!

Who wouldn't want a piece of this lovely treat?

Trays of perfectly garnished cupcakes

I made my way to the counter and placed my orders. The one who served me was an African-American young adult who was very friendly and kind, even though the place was swarmed with cupcake-enthusiast and things were a bit busy and hectic. After I ordered my cupcake, I was given a receipt with numbers on it and was told to wait. It turned out that the numbers on the receipt will be called when our cupcakes are ready. As I waited for my cupcakes, I shotted some flash.

After I got my cupcakes, I got out from the store and went to the other side of the street with my parents to indulge.

An all new episode of DC Cupcakes!

I got my share, woohoo!

I opened the box and was welcomed by three gorgeous looking cupcakes. My cupcake is the Mint Cookie and Cream, while Mom got the Red Velvet and Dad got the Chocolate 2. But we share our cupcakes with each other though, so I technically eat all of the baked goods that I bought.

Each cupcakes costed $2.75 and there was only one way to eat it.. slowly.

Left to Right: Chocolate 2, Mint Cookies and Cream, Red Velvet

I have to put this here, do mind me

Mint Cookies and Cream
Madagascar bourbon vanilla cupcake baked with oreo crumbles topped with a mint oreo crumble-infused buttercream frosting

This cupcake tasted so good, minty and crumbly. They used a generous amount of oreo crumbles as well. The buttercream frosting was not creamy, nor fudgy, and not even gooey. I thought that the texture would be like ice cream, but I stand corrected. The frosting was frosting-y. Sweetness overload describe the condition of the frosting well, my teeth were hurting. But still, it tasted so good I wanted more.

The minty and crumbly Mint Cookies and Cream

Chocolate 2
Valrhona chocolate cupcake with a whipped Callebaut chocolate frosting topped with a fondant flower

asdfghjkl I can't even begin to describe this delicious bastard. I have no idea what Valrhona, nor Callebaut, is, but the one thing I know that they tasted damn good! The chocolate was bitter in a good and sinfully delicious way. One bite and it literary melted in your mouth. Gooey and delightful are the definition of Chocolate 2's chocolate frosting. This particular cupcake made me, and still makes me, want to use bad words that starts with an "f" to describe how good it tasted.

The oh-so-gooey-and-delightful Chocolate 2

Red Velvet
Georgetown Cupcake's signature cupcake - classic red velvet cupcake with a vanilla cream cheese frosting topped with a red fondant heart

Now this is a genuine Red Velvet, Ladies and Gentlemen! Every single Red Velvet that I have ever tasted is nothing compared to this baby. They should make an Oscar for cupcakes and nominate Georgetown Cupcake's Red Velvet in the "Best Red Velvet Cupcake Ever Seriouslyi'm notjokingyouhavetotrustmetryitforyourself" category. Every component of this Red Velvet Cupcake, say the vanilla cream cheese frosting and the red velvet cake, worked out perfectly. The word to fits the cupcake is "BOW DOWN BEFORE ME, PEASANTS!".

The almighty Red Velvet

We were in front of people's flat lounging around eating our cupcake and laugh inaudibly at those who were still lining up outside the shop. The line got longer by the minute. It's a good thing I got there early.

I was delightfully happy when the cupcakes were finished. A bit sad though because we ran out of cupcakes. But still happy as a clam. The next time I go to Georgetown, I'm gonna pay another visit to Sophie's and Katherine's cupcake shop and buy me some Salted Caramel and Chocolate 2.

Doha's Opera Patisserie

A couple days ago, I went to Doha's Opera Patisserie for the first time. I went there with my Dad's friend, Tante Rosi, and her daughter, Nabila. The patisserie is located at The Mall, a rather big, yet compact, mall located just 10-minute-drive from where I live.

Opéra Cafe

As we entered the cake shop, we were welcomed by a gorgeous display of cakes and chocolates. There were different sizes of cakes with different kinds of toppings. One of them has fruits on top, while the other has Vanilla cream. Another cake was decorated with some kind of jam, I assume it was Strawberry because it was red in color, and adjacent to that cake was an oval-shaped dessert coated in green colored cream. It was really fun to see such scenery!

The sight of Opera Patisserie's entrance

Tante Rosi has been to Opera Patisserie before, so she knows which cake is good. We settle down for a big tray of Chocolate Mousse Cake and some petite cakes. The big cake costed 110 Riyal and the small ones were 2.5 Riyal each. We headed home right away because we were very excited to get our hands on that delicious melty mousse.

A box of Opera Patisserie's Chocolate Mousse Cake

Petite cakes that worth 2.5 Riyal each

After lunch was over, we immediately attacked the cakes and bellow is the result of my observation (do take notes that when we pick the petite cakes at the patisserie, we simply point our finger, we didn't know the names of the cakes),

1. I'm guessing that it is a Blueberry Cheese Cake. At the bottom of the cake was a fragile and savory pie crust, on top of it was soft and delicate cream cheese topped with Blueberry jam. The cake was a letdown for a sweet-tooth, but a two-thumbs up for a those who fancy cheese cake. It was not sweet and nauseating, very light, and suitable to be consumed with a cup of Grand Wedding flavored tea.

2. Unfortunately, this cake was very dry and airy. It taste like leftover cake that has been left inside the fridge for three days. It was sweet and chocolaty, yet it was not at its' best condition.

3. This igloo-shaped cake is actually chocolate ganache covered chocolate mousse. Inside the chocolate mousse was clumps of savory and sandy nuts. This cake is very delightful! It was melty and gooey, very delicious, and the chocolate would just stick there at the ceiling of your mouth like peanut butter.

4. Cake number four is is a plain chocolate cake covered in milk chocolate. The cake was sweet and delicious, but there was nothing to shout about.

5. I picked this cake at the patisserie because it looked different than the other cakes inside the glass display. The cake was covered in some kind of green colored cream and is topped with pistachio. As I cut this cake open, I was welcomed by a wee bit of green colored cake in the middle of the petite dessert. I tried this cake and it tasted like pandan. It was nice, but I'm not that fond of it.

6. The last but not least, cake number six. I'm guessing it's a pistachio cake, but it tasted like pandan, same like the previous cake.

This cake is to die for

The big cake that we bought, the Chocolate Mousse Cake, was shared with everyone for dessert. There were seven of us, surrounding the table in the living room as Tante Rosi took over the duty to cut the cake into pieces. The sides of the cake was wrapped with plastic - took it off, then the chocolate ganache on the surface of the cake started to drip. The cake was very very gooey and melty and yummy I couldn't help but to mentally drool all over the cake.

The plastic wrapping had some chocolate ganache on it and was handed over to Nabila and Oom Bobby to be 'cleaned'. Guess how they did it?

Tadaaaaa!

We don't have time to make pie chart

I got a piece of the cake and it was the most beautiful piece of cake I have seen on that day. Three layers of cake topped with sweet and melty chocolate ganache, with chocolate cream on the sides, and a bread-like wall circling the cake itself.

When you stick a fork inside that cake, you can actually feel how feather-like the cake is. The chocolate cake was very soft, not to mention the chocolate cream, and don't you make me start talking about the chocolate ganache. The only stiff component from the cake is the bread-like stripy wall surrounding it.

The best cake in town

I cut a big piece of the cake and indulged. It tasted like.. AN ERUPTION OF A CHOCOLATE VOLCANO! The cake literary melts in your mouth. The combination of the texture - the cake, the chocolate cream, and the chocolate ganache - was very enjoyable. It tasted sweet, chocolaty, gooey, and I had lean back on the sofa so that I wouldn't pass out from the deliciousness. My favorite part of the cake was actually the bread-like wall, I have no idea why. It tasted plain, but a bit savory, and it was stiff. Compared to the chocolaty cake, the stripy wall doesn't stand a chance. But somehow, I like it very much.

This cake was very very DELICIOUS, with capital D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S, emphasizing on the "delicious". If I could use the word "very" a lot of times before "delicious", I would use hundreds of them.

Bon Appétit

For those who live in Doha, Qatar, you have got to get your butt to Opera Patisserie and get this epic Chocolate Mousse Cake. The big one costs 110 Riyal, but price may vary. The medium sized cake is 10 Riyal each and the petite cake is 2.5 Riyal each. Happy shopping, happy indulging, and don't worry about how you will gain weight after munching down a whole cake because you can always jog a mile!
