Rolly's Thai Roll Ice Cream

I have been watching videos about this particular dessert that is happening right now, the roll ice cream. Some refer to as as fried ice cream, but I don't see any frying action happening in the making, as it was merely the action of turning liquid cream and milk mixture into frozen dessert by using a super cold pan.

After watching several videos, I can conclude that this dessert derives from Thailand. It's a good thing they already have it here in Jakarta, Indonesia, so I don't have to bother buying airplane tickets to go to Thailand so that I can get my hands on these babies.

Rolly's Thai Roll Ice Cream is the name of the roll ice cream parlor. They set up a booth at Kuningan City for the local citizen to try, and I was very lucky to have my dorm mate, Anggita, with me that day to have my very first ice cream rolls.

There were four choices of cream for the base of your ice cream rolls and numerous toppings to go with. I went for the Vanilla, while Anggita chose to have yogurt as the base for her frozen treat. Each flavor costs vary, yet it is not that expensive as it ranges from Rp 25.000,00 to Rp 29.000,00. The first three toppings were free, but any additional toppings will cost you another Rp 3.000,00. Very friendly price range for an imported dessert idea, don't you think?

What appeals to the consumer is how the ice cream was made. At first, it was only a mixture of milk and whipped cream, added with the three toppings that you chose. Then, the mixture was poured on this super super cold ice pan and the ice cream man would do some super fast chopping action of the whole ice cream mixture on the ice pan. The next thing you know, the mixture starts to freeze and voila! your ice cream rolls are ready! Here's a video incase you still haven't get the idea..

I had me a Vanilla ice cream, with Oreos, almonds, and bananas while Anggita had a frozen yogurt with strawberries and marshmallow. The ice cream was heavy as it was merely a mixture of milk and whipped cream for its' ingredients. Very milky and creamy, and it tasted like how Vanilla ice cream would taste, with a hint of my free three toppings. Anggita's frozen yogurt was also very creamy and heavy, yet it had this hint of sourness from the strawberries.

Overall, my first ice cream rolls experience was nice. Delicious dessert, unique first-timing experiences, not to mention budget friendly!

Milka & Oreo Chocolate Bar

I am currently obsessed with Milka & Oreo Chocolate Bar. Bought this one at Hamad International Airport at Doha, Qatar, when I got time to spare before I board the aircraft that would take me back home to Jakarta.

There were various choices of Milka bars flavors. Some of them were pretty unique and unlikely to find here in Indonesia. The chocolate bars were on a PAY 3 FOR 4 discount thing, but I only bought one because each bar costs 30 Riyal and I don't have that sum of money to spend. (30 Riyal is equal to Rp111.000,00. These chocolates are expensive.)

Basically, Milka & Oreo Chocolate Bar is a milk chocolate bar with Oreos inside. I was not disappointed by the presentation of the chocolate bar because there was no difference between the advertisement version and the real thing.

The chocolate was sweet. It had this kind of sweetness that would hurt your teeth and make you nauseous if you eat it too much. I'm not really into white cream, but the generous amount of Oreos manage to cover that up.

I like my chocolate in room temperature, where it's not brick-hard, yet not liquified either. The well-known Milka milk chocolate was very smooth yet chewable, while the vanilla cream went all creamy and mushy in a quick snap. The Oreos was like the cherry on top of a perfect ice cream Sundae, it completes the chocolate bar.

Oseng Tuna Asap "OTAJI"

Puasa-puasa berikutnya pun, nafsu makan gue justru meningkat. Yang tadinya mau buka puasa dengan kolak doang, gue malah berakhir menyantap menu buka puasa yang disediakan di Ruang Makan Jatah Taruna - nasi secentong besar, ikan filet asam manis tiga potong, tempe balado satu potong, dan takjil dua mangkok. Kacau.

Bagel Bagel's Lox Bagelwich

And, for the hundredth time, I made my way back to my favorite bagel shop located at Kemang, Jakarta Selatan, to indulge myself in its' warm and delicious selection of Bagelwich.

Thanks to my best buddy, Sally, who introduced me to this bagel shop, Bagel Bagel has become the number one bagel shop that I always visit whenever I'm in the mood for some chewy and scrumptious yeasted wheat dough with cream cheese. This bagel shop specialized in Bagelwich and, boy, have I tried various fillings to go with my bagel. I had me the Banana and Caramel Bagelwich (which is no longer produced at the shop, God knows why), the Smoked Beef and Cheese Bagelwich, the Philly Cheese Steak Bagelwich, and the Thai Spicy Chicken Bagelwich. This time, I decided to try something unique, which is the Lox Bagelwich.

Bagel Bagel's Lox Bagelwich contains a quite generous amount of sliced smoked salmon, a heavy and delightfully savory spread of cream cheese, a couple rings of red onion, and a handful of capers.

Lox, for those who don't know, is fillet smoked salmon. Compared to those raw salmon that we usually slurp at sushi restaurants, lox tasted less sweet and saltier. The ones that they have at Bagel Bagel was quite odorless, slightly salty, and slightly smoky. The meat was tender and enjoyable, but I have to say that I'm more of a fan of raw salmon more than smoked salmon.

It was my first time to eat capers. They were sour and tangy. I didn't like them as I don't enjoy pickled veggies much like my Mom does. Without the capers, the Lox Bagelwich tasted pretty bland. All I could taste was the bagel, the poppy seeds, and the cream cheese. I could only find a faint smokiness from the smoked salmon. The red onion didn't do quite much in adding extra flavor to the bagelwich though.

Clearly, the Lox Bagelwich is not my favorite. My favorite bagelwich from Bagel Bagel is still, and will always be, the Banana Caramel Bagelwich. Too bad they took it out from the menu, I'm not sure why.
