Japanese Knick-Knacks

My Dad just got back from Osaka, for the third time this year, and he got me a sackful of knick-knacks! "I brought your treasure," Dad said when he arrived at our home. He unzipped his luggage and pulled out numerous colorful boxes, it lasted for several seconds. It's like watching Mary Poppins pulling out a lamp from her magic purse. 

Dad got me a pack of Hello Kitty Gum, a box of Strawberry Mouse, three packs of Asahi Biscuits, and three boxes of Popin' Cookin': DIY Candy Kit. All of them are very colorful, as expected from Japanese products. I can't wait to taste them all!

Asahi's Caramel and Fruits Biscuit

Another souvenir that Dad brought home after his trip to Osaka, Asahi's Caramel and Fruit Biscuit. This is, so far, the best Japanese snack I have ever eaten!

The packaging is based in orange color. Very cute and adorable design. I mean, just look at those bunnies, and fruits, and bird, and Comic-sans-like Japanese writing! 

When you tear the packaging, you will find a couple of small packaging inside, in which contains a pair of biscuit sandwich each.

Tear open the small packaging and, voila!, a pair of Caramel and Fruit Biscuits reporting for duty! I was not disappointed by how the biscuits turned out to be, because they look very similar to the ones printed on the packaging. Them biscuits had a very strong and delicious caramel scent. You can even smell them from an arm-long distance. Not many biscuits have such forte, right? 

The biscuits are soft brown in color, and dried fruits can be found on the surfaces. Between them is a thick layer of creme-colored caramel cream. The biscuits were heavy and solid, unlike the fragile chocolate chip cookies that you can find in the grocery store.

At first bite, I was at bed of roses! These Caramel and Fruit Biscuits were beyond delicious and delectable. The biscuit was dry, but it was not airy at all. The savory biscuit shattered into fragments of delicious crumbs. The flavor combination of the biscuit was perfect, not too sweet, nor too plain! 

As much as I want to keep the biscuits to myself, I need to tell the people in the house about how good the snack is. So, I decided to open both packs, break the biscuits into parts, and share them with the six of us. There were Mom, Dad, and I, and three of Dad's friends. The six of us came back with great reviews for the biscuits! 

When you get to Japan, make sure you don't forget to buy this particular snack. Buy dozens if you have to, for souvenirs and for your monthly stock of snack. You can never get enough of Asahi's Caramel and Fruit Biscuits, trust me!

Dad just got home from his flight to Osaka and he brought me a bunch of Japanese snacks, woohoo!

Meet Choco,  a cup of chocolate-coated potato chips. My Hiragana skill is bellow average, leading me to not be able to read what's written on the snack's packaging, so I just name this snack "Choco".

This is Nissin Mini Cup Noodle! We have this particular cup noodle back in Indonesia, but most of them are large in size. This mini cup noodle is very petite and adorable, despite the fact that it is merely a cup of instant noodle. It even come with a pair of petite chopsticks.

Since I'm not able to understand what's written on the packaging, I simply refer this snack as Asahi Biscuit: Caramel and Fruits. I'm guessing that the biscuits are baked with dried fruits, sandwiching a generous amount of caramel cream. I haven't tasted this biscuit yet, but I bet it tasted funky and amusing!

And can we all agree that the packaging itself looks adorable, with those bunnies and fruits, and eye-catching orange-based background?

Last but not least, a box of Green Tea Kit Kat, or Uji Matcha Kit Kat. Dad bought this particular box of chocolate because a friend of his recommended him the snack. "He told me that the chocolate tasted great, so I bought it," said Dad.

Disney Crackers For Disney Enthusiast

Calling all Disney enthusiast, you have got to buy this particular crackers made by Morinaga! Morinaga Pakkuncho Disney Crackers is the name of the Japanese origin snack. So far, I only found two flavors that were on sale here at Indonesia, which are Strawberry and Chocolate. The crackers are as big as my thumbnail and there are drawings of Disney characters on each crackers. Isn't that awesome?

The inner sight of the packaging is decorated with printed pictures of Disney characters. There are Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, The Beast, Ariel, Prince Phillip, and many more! Too bad Jim isn't included in the crackers, along with Uncle Scrooge, Joe Carioca, and Panchito Pistole. Those four characters are my favorite as well.

Can you name all of them?

The crackers are filled with either Strawberry paste or Chocolate paste. Both flavor tasted great, but I'd prefer the Chocolate crackers. The color of the drawings on each crackers depends on the flavor, if it's Strawberry flavor then the drawing will be in pink, if it's Chocolate flavor then the drawing will be in brown.

Highly recommended for Disney enthusiast! You can get these crackers at Ranch 99 Market, Dharmawangsa Square, or at All Fresh, or at Food Hall, or any other place that sell imported goods. It will cost you Rp20.000,00 for a box of Morinaga Pakkuncho Disney Crackers, but it's worth it!
